Other than being out of town, I had never spent a day without a Golden since my family adopted Pumpkin in 2012 and Ginger in 2013. And when I moved in early 2020, I knew I wanted to share my home with a Golden that needed one. When I received a call from Rescue A Golden in November 2020 asking if I would be interested in one of the ten Goldens from China? Oh absolutely! Since these dogs were rescued from the meat trade, no one had any information to share other than the ages of these dogs and when they were expected to arrive in the U.S. With the photos I was given, I picked a dog named Jesus. I had no idea what to expect but considered myself an experienced Golden owner, and thought “how different could he be from my own?” Oh boy…
I named him Butter because not only is the name cute, but it also matches his fur color, and of course, to continue the food-themed dog names in the family. Knowing he had a rough start to his young life, I really couldn’t be more proud of the dog I have today. Everyday, he tries so hard to be better than the day before and because of how determined he is, he has already mastered a few commands! From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Rescue A Golden, Golden Without Borders and the generous donation from E Marie that made this rescue and many others possible.
By the way, Butter has a few words he would like to say.
Hi! Butter here! Come on, you can’t tell my story without letting me say a few words! (okay, Butter)
In addition to those that Mom has thanked already, I also want to thank the group of determined volunteers in China that got me and my Golden friends out and gave us all a new chance at life. There are many other Goldens that deserve a second chance and to know that I was picked to have a spot on that U.S.-bound flight, I know I am one lucky dog. While Mom still tells me “no” a lot, I am starting to hear her say “good boy” more and whenever I hear that, I usually get a treat! So, I think I am doing what Mom likes me to do more and Mom, I promise I will continue to be better because I want more treats!

Butter's story would not have been possible without the support from people like you. Please be a part of a future success story by contributing to our efforts or consider volunteering with us.
