How to Save a Life: Sing a Melody of Love

Life has not been fair to Melody.  She was rescued from an abandoned house dehydrated and starving, and brought back to life with medical treatment and loving care. But she remained emotionally traumatized and required months of professional help to undo the damage that had been done.

MELODY

I had a home once, this I know
For I was born in Mexico
Those people moved, left me for good
No drink or tiny crumb of food

So frightening to be left alone
My body turned to skin and bone
I couldn’t bark, could barely cry
I thought oh please don’t let me die

And then it happened! An angel came
She touched my face and spoke my name
Don't be afraid, you're safe she said
And laid me in a warm soft bed

You are sick and so malnourished
But someday I know you will flourish
You’ll need patience, love and care
And lots of time, please don't despair
 

It took months to find your home
But now you’ll never be alone
Always ... we’ll be by your side
And that is how you save a life
